Hervé Foucher, the author of the French Tutorial.

Hervé Foucher

Personal background

I am 38 and live in Rubelles, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of Paris, with my wife and 2 children. You probably don't know Rubelles. This is a tiny city in the département of Seine-et-Marne. But you may know the castle of Vaux-Le-Vicomte which is next to it.

In 1995, I got a D.U.T. (academic diploma in technology) in Physics at Saint-Denis. I had been interested in computer sciences for a long time and I therefore continued my studies at EFREI, an engineering school. At that time, I started learning HTML and web technologies.

In 1996, I designed the first web site about the Soccer World Cup France 98. The GIP Stade de France asked me to build their web site about the building of the Stade de France in Saint-Denis (now closed)

In 1998, I graduate from EFREI and joint Dassault Systèmes, the world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions. I've been working for this company since.

The French Tutorial

In 1999, I started working on the French Tutorial because... I wanted to learn Italian and I didn't find any good ressource on the internet (it may be different now). I asked to myself: "By the way, is there a good french tutorial on line?". I found a few but thought I could definitely do a better job.

So, I started designing my own course from scratch. A lot of visitors came to the site very quickly, asking for more! Each month I tried to add something new: new chapters, audio files, tests, ...

In 2005, The French Tutorial became a sole proprietorship business. The company name turned to Briow in 2010.
