Hervé Foucher, the author of the French Tutorial.

- Personal background

I am 32 and live in Rubelles, 60 kilometers (37 miles) south of Paris, with my wife and 2 children. You probably don't know Rubelles. This is a tiny city in the département of Seine-et-Marne. But you may know the castle of Vaux-Le-Vicomte which is next to it.

In 1995, I got a D.U.T. (academic diploma in technology) in Physics at Saint-Denis. I was interested by computer sciences for a long time and therefore I continued my studies at EFREI, an engineering school. At that time, I started learning HTML and web technologies.
In 1996, I designed the first web site about the Soccer World Cup France 98. The GIP Stade de France asked me to build their web site about the building of the Stade de France in Saint-Denis (now closed)

In 1998, I was a graduate of EFREI. My friend Lionel Bernardi and I founded the HELIO non-profit organization. It aimed at developing web-based projects on our leisure time. "HELIO" simply means HErvé and LIOnel!

In 1998, I joined Dassault Systèmes, the world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions. I still work for the company.

- The French Tutorial

In 1999, I started working on the French Tutorial because... I wanted to learn Italian and I didn't find any good ressource on the net (it might have changed since). I asked myself: "By the way, is there a French Tutorial on line?". I found some but I thought I could do a better job.

So, I started it from scratch. A lot of people came on the site very quickly, asking for more! Each month I tried to release something. I added sound support.

In 2002, I decided to create 3 different versions of the tutorial: the Standard Edition, free of charge, the Personal Edition, available for download and the Deluxe Edition, restricted to donors. The Website layout was completely rebuilt and it came to the light in August 2003.

In 2005, The French Tutorial became a sole proprietorship business.
